Training for young managers to facilitate the start of their careers

ICAN First-Time Manager™ is a training course for entry-level managers who are taking their first steps in their careers. It helps you find your way in your new role and gain confidence in your managerial position. The training equips you with a strong foundation of knowledge and competencies necessary for any manager in the areas of self and team management, communication, motivation, the role and tasks of a manager.

Is your career gaining momentum? Or are you a boss and have such people in your team or want to promote someone? The training will give the participant a good start in his or her career, and the company confidence that the newly appointed leader will perform in his or her role. To date, ICAN First-Time Manager™ has helped successfully develop the careers of as many as 4,000 managers.

What problems and mistakes of young managers are solved by training

According to research, between 40% and as many as 70% of newly appointed managers fail management expectations and lose their positions within the first 24 months. Why does this happen? There are mainly three factors contributing to a young manager's disaster:

Icon_1

Lack of necessary management skills

Often the best specialist on the team is promoted to the position of manager without being properly prepared for the new role. Lack of knowledge of basic management tools most often makes itself known in the first weeks of work: through decision-making errors, incompetent division of tasks in the team, and neglect of one's own duties as a result of poor time management.

Icon_2

Difficulties in interpersonal relations

The promoted employee becomes a boss to recent co-workers. He himself is also accountable to his new superior. The new position in the organizational hierarchy is conducive to conflicts with both the subordinate team and with equal and senior managers.

Icon_3

Professional burnout

With promotion, expectations of the employee change. A reorientation of thinking is necessary: from individual influence on the results achieved to the realization of goals through the team. The inability to cope with the new type of responsibilities in extreme cases ends up frustrating the manager, who tries to carry out the tasks of the whole team on his own.

Benefits for the company

A well-prepared leader does not expose the company to additional costs, but helps increase revenues and ensures that the organization functions better through efficient management.

  • Avoid the losses associated with managerial errors or failure to fill a position. A misguided recruitment can cost you as much as 200% of your annual salary.
  • You will eliminate the risk of a young manager failing and burning out, which could result in the loss of a high-potential employee who, with the right support, would have become a great manager.
  • You will gain confidence that the right person has been promoted or hired to handle the responsibilities and challenges.
  • You won't lose valuable specialists who might leave because of an incompetent manager.

Benefits for the team

Talented professionals value good managers who set clear goals and are a support in achieving them, not an obstacle due to their incompetence.

  • The team will not waste time and energy on poorly organized work by the manager, which could lower motivation and commitment.
  • They will receive feedback presented in a substantive manner, which will improve efficiency at the team and individual levels.
  • They will avoid unproductive team-leader conflicts related to the boss's mistakes, such as unclear communication, unrealistic expectations, micromanagement, etc.
  • Employees will not want to leave as a result of the boss's incompetence, and the team will not fall apart, especially in the situation of inheriting a team from another leader.

General Manager

At the beginning of my managerial journey, I was drowning in ongoing tasks. Trying to deal with them took up 100% of my time, often forcing me to work after hours. I didn't have a single moment to think more strategically. This blocked both the growth of my organization and the development of my career. I was encouraged to participate in the First-Time Manager™ program by recommendations from manager friends. I wanted a high level of training...and those expectations were met! The program quickly helped me combat the inadequacies in my day-to-day management practice by pointing out best practices.

I heartily recommend ICAN First-Time Manager™ to those who are about to start managing a team. And also to those who have been immediately thrown in at the deep end and are already struggling with leadership responsibilities - this program is a valuable "lifeline" for them! The ITL First-Time Manager™ program gives participants invaluable knowledge about themselves: their competencies, predispositions, characters... Taking part in it, I learned not only practical methods of leading a team. I also learned how I can use my individual qualities to be a better manager.

ICAN Institute's training courses have been valued in our company for many years because of the individualized approach to participant development and the strong emphasis on practical knowledge. Participation in the First-Time Manager™ program gave me a new perspective on how a manager's work should look like, how I should communicate with my subordinates and build good relations in the team, and what I can do better to get the desired results. The huge dose of knowledge ready for immediate implementation, the extraordinary atmosphere of the classes and the trainers, whom I will probably remember for the rest of my life, have already made me think about attending more trainings.

Frequently asked questions

This question requires a thorough diagnosis of the problems present in your career or company. What area are your challenges? What attempts at solutions have already been tested? What are the barriers to development? To accurately diagnose your development needs, contact our consultant.
Even after the first training sessions. For example, at the first workshop of the Strategic Leadership Academy™ program, participants (CEOs and board members) were tasked with "creating" a competitor to beat them in the market. They then considered what their corporate resources could reduce the rival's clout. The 2-day workshop gave participants a bird's-eye view of their organization and built a strategic foundation for which there was previously no time due to the daily hustle and bustle.
That's great! By meeting people from a competing company, we can see what problems they have and how they deal with them. Such information cannot be obtained from any other source. This intermingling of industries, both competitive and completely unrelated, allows us to generate unique ideas.
It depends on whether the problem is disclosed or not. Often participants think that certain problems present in the company are due to causes beyond their control, while in fact they may be the result of their own managerial mistakes, a competence gap or the use of outdated management methods, etc. Even if the problem is not solved right away, it will certainly be diagnosed correctly. Together we will find the right ways and tools to solve it.
Of course. This need is met by our Alumni Club, where trainees can benefit from each other's knowledge and experience. In addition to this, each graduate receives personalized content from ICAN, so that they always have at hand the articles, reports and analyses that are most interesting to them. What's more, trainees have repeatedly created their own groups on LinkedIn or Whatsapp to extend networking beyond the training room.
Time is one of the most obvious constraints on our participants. That's why programs most often take place every 2 weeks or once a month. This allows you to catch your breath in learning, reflect on your career and company, and systematize the knowledge you have gained and start implementing it in your company to share the results at the next session.

We issue an invoice on the first day of training. This allows the company to quickly include the training in its costs. Payment by installments is possible. There is also the possibility of obtaining funding from the National Training Fund, for which we help prepare applications.
For each training course you receive a guarantee that allows you to cancel after 1 session or 2 sessions (depending on the program) and receive a 100% refund. You can also change to another program that is more suited to your needs.
Tak, w zależności od indywidualnych potrzeb możesz wykupić pojedyncze sesje szkoleniowe.

When considering the choice of training for managers and executives, it is worth first determining what competencies they need to develop. Will it be soft competencies, such as communication, motivation, feedback, mental toughness of a leader, or hard competencies, related to knowledge of specific management methods, goal setting, employee evaluation or basics of financial and economic analysis. Therefore, in order to choose the best training for an employee, it is necessary to take into account the employee's position, experience, career stage, responsibilities and business objectives to be achieved.

It is worth choosing certified training, which ends with the manager obtaining a document confirming the acquisition of knowledge and competence. The certificate is a guarantee for the company that the training is characterized by high quality and level of content, and for the employee it is a valuable element to add to his CV and a tool that builds his image as an expert in his field.
