What problems and mistakes of young managers are solved by training

ICAN First-Time Manager™ will help you overcome the challenges associated with taking on a managerial role for the first time. These include:

Icon_1

Lack of necessary management skills

Often the best specialist on the team is promoted to the position of manager without being properly prepared for the new role. Lack of knowledge of basic management tools most often makes itself known in the first weeks of work: through decision-making errors, incompetent division of tasks in the team, and neglect of one's own duties as a result of poor time management.

Icon_2

Difficulties in interpersonal relations

The promoted employee becomes a boss to recent co-workers. He himself is also accountable to his new superior. The new position in the organizational hierarchy is conducive to conflicts with both the subordinate team and with equal and senior managers.

Icon_3

Professional burnout

With promotion, expectations of the employee change. A reorientation of thinking is necessary: from individual influence on the results achieved to the realization of goals through the team. The inability to cope with the new type of responsibilities in extreme cases ends up frustrating the manager, who tries to carry out the tasks of the whole team on his own.

Benefits for the team

Talented professionals value good managers who set clear goals and are a support in achieving them, not an obstacle due to their incompetence.

  • The team will not waste time and energy on poorly organized work by the manager, which could lower motivation and commitment.
  • They will receive feedback presented in a substantive manner, which will improve efficiency at the team and individual levels.
  • They will avoid unproductive team-leader conflicts related to the boss's mistakes, such as unclear communication, unrealistic expectations, micromanagement, etc.
  • Employees will not want to leave as a result of the boss's incompetence, and the team will not fall apart, especially in the situation of inheriting a team from another leader.

General Manager

At the beginning of my managerial journey, I was drowning in ongoing tasks. Trying to deal with them took up 100% of my time, often forcing me to work after hours. I didn't have a single moment to think more strategically. This blocked both the growth of my organization and the development of my career. I was encouraged to participate in the First-Time Manager™ program by recommendations from manager friends. I wanted a high level of training...and those expectations were met! The program quickly helped me combat the inadequacies in my day-to-day management practice by pointing out best practices.

I heartily recommend ICAN First-Time Manager™ to those who are about to start managing a team. And also to those who have been immediately thrown in at the deep end and are already struggling with leadership responsibilities - this program is a valuable "lifeline" for them! The ITL First-Time Manager™ program gives participants invaluable knowledge about themselves: their competencies, predispositions, characters... Taking part in it, I learned not only practical methods of leading a team. I also learned how I can use my individual qualities to be a better manager.

ICAN Institute's training courses have been valued in our company for many years because of the individualized approach to participant development and the strong emphasis on practical knowledge. Participation in the First-Time Manager™ program gave me a new perspective on how a manager's work should look like, how I should communicate with my subordinates and build good relations in the team, and what I can do better to get the desired results. The huge dose of knowledge ready for immediate implementation, the extraordinary atmosphere of the classes and the trainers, whom I will probably remember for the rest of my life, have already made me think about attending more trainings.

Frequently asked questions

The condition for passing the training is attendance of at least 80% and passing the final exam after all sessions.

If you are unable to attend class for important reasons, you can make it up with another group. All you need to do is notify us of your absence in advance.

The exam takes place online on the myICAN platform. You can take it from home or anywhere else on your device. You have 6 months from the date of the last session to take the exam, so you can take it at a time that suits you.

The test itself consists of closed-ended, single-choice questions. To pass, you must get 80% of the answers correct.

The sessions are workshop-based – we focus on practice. We limit theory to the most important management concepts that form the basis for effective management. Participants can take advantage of individual diagnostics, work in groups on specific case studies, receive ongoing feedback from trainers, and learn about tools for implementing the concepts discussed.

Between classes , participants complete prework, i.e ., introductory tasks related to the session topic, which they complete on their own. This ensures that the entire group starts with the same level of knowledge and can focus on practice and exercises during the session with the expert.

In the case of classroom training, each session lasts two days (once a month). Classes last 6.5 hours, including coffee and lunch breaks. The first day of classes takes place from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and the second day from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The online formula consists of 10 workshops held over a period of 6 months. Each workshop lasts 6 hours.

Yes, you will have access to the knowledge portal for the duration of the training and for 12 months after its completion.

The portal contains not only training materials, but also additional content and activities, including ICAN Business Advisor® online training courses with certificates and content from our business magazines. Here you will find many examples of tools, methods, and ready-made templates (e.g., for difficult conversations with employees or a manager's credo) that you can use at work immediately after the training.

Both versions of the training course cover the same material, i.e., five thematic blocks divided into 20 modules. The level of teaching and interactivity is equally high (diagnostics, group work, exchange of experiences, platform).

They differ only in the format of the classes. On-site classes are held once a month (a two-day session), while online classes are spread over 10 workshops over a period of six months.

This is due to the different nature of virtual teaching compared to "live" classroom teaching. More frequent but shorter meetings are intended to prevent fatigue caused by spending too much time in front of the computer and a decrease in concentration.

You can pay the VAT invoice immediately after registering for the training or on the day of the training.

It is possible to pay for the training in installments (in which case the cost of the training increases by 5%). The cost does not include accommodation and travel expenses for participants.

We encourage you to contact our development advisor at 22 11 33 444, who will propose a special offer.
